Idaho State Penitentiary

After the wedding we had some time to kill before the reception so we thought we would go visit the Boise Penitentiary. It was from 1872-1973, in that time it had over 13,000 prisoners. 215 women and the max at one time was 603. There were over 500 escapes, but only 90 got away, hahaha. 10 men were hanged here. Last one in 1957. No women have been executed in Idaho.
Oldest and Youngest inmates were a 10 year old who served less then a year for killing a man. A 11 year old severed 9 years for shooting his mother, and an 81 year old man served 3 years for cattle rustling. There was only one prisoner who was buried on the grounds of the prison, David. His grave stone is in the dirt spot by the guard house. He was a cat that the 10 year old prisoner found and hid, then once one of the guards discovered him, he hid him from the other guards. Till finally they put him on the prisoner records as David since everyone in Jail had to be recorded. He lived for 15 years, they never fed him, he was only given table scraps by the inmates, he was 25 pounds when he died.
I can't believe how beautiful the building are, I don't think the inmates appreciated the beauty they had around them...lol.
You did not want to be a tall man in jail...lol.
The kids right were we want them, under control and no way to get out, hahaha.
Brian really wanted OUT!
The cells in one of the 4 holding units, and the room where the hangings were viewed and done.
As we were leaving we saw that we completely missed a photo OP station. Coralie and her family were already gone, they could have had some cute pictures to!
Chad did not want to dress up but he did stand in the punishment box. Aunt Jeanie played the part well...lol.
My dad and Trent in the punishment box, and Trent being his clever self, hahaha.
My dad and me, yup, one play you never want to go is to prison!...lol
